Earth Day 2025

Yesterday, the Federation took part in the World Earth Day celebrations.
This is a global event that highlights the issues faced by the planet we live on and how we can protect the environment. This year’s theme was “Our Power, Our Planet” so after a whole Federation assembly, each year group was given an activity that related to the environment.
Early years: Shadow art
Our reception children used the sun to draw their friends' shadows to create their own shadow art.
Year 1: Suncatchers
Year 1 used coloured foil to create beautiful suncatchers that resembled stained-glass when light was shone through them.
Year 2: Wind-powered pinwheels
Our children in Year 2 harnessed the power of the wind by cutting out and decorating their own paper pinwheels.
Year 3: Water wheels
Like Year 2, Year 3 converted the energy from falling water into power with water wheels.
Year 4: A Foxhills Federation pledge
Year 4 decided to write short pledges around changes that can be made to help overcome climate change.
Year 5: Energy Data Collection
Year 5 spent the day collecting data and creating spreadsheets surrounding the energy consumption of the school. Their hope was to highlight how efficient the school building is and how the Federation uses renewable and non-renewable energy sources.
Year 6: New forms of renewable energy
Finally, Year 6 spent the afternoon inventing new forms of renewable energy. They then made presentations pitching their grand ideas. Some of the ideas they came up with were: roads made out of solar panels, toys that convert children's movement into power and using dogs in kennels to power the national grid while being hooked up to VR headsets!
